Last weekend a North Park homeowner called us at 7 a.m. after a garage sale that didn’t sell much. By 9 a.m. we had two truckloads of furniture, broken appliances, and leftover yard debris on the way to a recycling facility. No renting a trailer. No trips to the Miramar Landfill. Just a single call and a cleared space. That’s the model behind Got Junk SD — same-day haul-aways across San Diego County, done right.

What San Diego Junk Removal Actually Looks Like

San Diego is not a one-size city. A condo cleanout in Mission Hills requires a crew that can navigate a narrow stairwell with furniture. A post-construction haul in Otay Ranch needs a truck rated for concrete debris. An estate cleanout in Rancho Bernardo involves sorting donations from true disposal. We staff and equip for all of it.

Our service area covers the entire county — from Oceanside in the north to Chula Vista and National City in the south, east through El Cajon and Escondido, west along the coast. One phone number reaches a local dispatcher who knows the difference between a NAVWAR office decommission and a residential garage cleanout.

Pricing is volume-based, not hourly. We quote by the fraction of a standard truck — a single item pickup starts at a minimum load rate; a full truck covers roughly 450 cubic feet of bulky material. There are no surprise fees for stairs, labor, or disposal. The price you accept on-site is the price on the invoice.

What We Remove — and What We Cannot

We haul furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics, yard waste, construction debris, boxes, clothing piles, exercise equipment, and general household junk. For appliances containing refrigerants (refrigerators, AC units), we follow California Bureau of Household Goods regulations — certified handling is included in the haul fee.

Items we cannot legally accept: hazardous waste (paint, solvents, chemicals), asbestos-containing materials, medical waste, and propane tanks. San Diego County’s Household Hazardous Waste program at the Miramar Facility handles those at no charge to residents. For e-waste — TVs, computers, monitors — we route to certified CA e-Stewards recyclers. We will not landfill it.

Mattress disposal follows California’s Mattress Recycling Council Bye Bye Mattress program. Every mattress we pick up gets turned in at a CFC-compliant processor. We do not haul mattresses to the landfill unless the recycler cannot accept them (rare, and we will tell you upfront).

Donation Diversion: What Gets Saved

San Diego has a dense network of donation partners — Goodwill Retail Centers in Mission Valley, National City, and El Cajon; Habitat for Humanity ReStore locations in Kearny Mesa and Escondido; Salvation Army drop-off centers near City Heights and Chula Vista. When items have reuse value, we route them before the landfill truck ever gets called.

We track diversion by load. Roughly 40% of material we pick up county-wide ends up donated or recycled. For estate and garage cleanouts — where furniture, tools, and clothing are still in good condition — that rate climbs closer to 60%. We can provide a diversion summary for insurance or estate documentation purposes on request.

If you’re a homeowner getting ready to list your property, this matters. Homeowners preparing to list with SD Home Hub often schedule a full junk haul before photos and staging — a single visit handles everything from garage overflow to backyard debris.

Scheduling — Same Day vs. Booked Appointments

Same-day appointments are available most days before noon call-in, subject to truck availability by ZIP code. Miramar, Kearny Mesa, Mission Valley, and most of central San Diego typically have same-day slots. Outlying areas like Ramona, Lakeside, and Alpine may require next-day scheduling.

Scheduled appointments (24+ hours ahead) earn a $25 discount on loads over one-quarter truck. For property managers coordinating tenant turnover across multiple units, we offer recurring service accounts with priority dispatch and consolidated billing.

Saturday service is available and popular — weekend calls make up about 35% of our weekly volume. Sunday appointments are available by request with a small surcharge.
